Button City (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!

Button City is a cute little game about a fox who makes friends at a local arcade and becomes a member of a four player team of players of some sort of MOBA called “Gobabots”. The main plot is about trying to stop the arcade from being closed down, but there’s also story about the other characters in the game, many of whom have personal issues to overcome, and you can collect new robots to use as your avatar in …

Songbird Symphony (Switch): COMPLETED!

You know, I’ve often wondered what Guitar Hero would be like if it was a cute platformer full of birds. Well, actually I never have. But clearly, someone did because here it is. Songbird Symphony stars Birb, a little bird of unknown origin, who sets out to find his family and where he came from. This involves some Metroidvania-lite platforming but instead of unlocking new skills to reach new areas, you unlock new musical notes which you tweet at locked …

Assorted iPhone Games (iPhone)

With my lovely new iPhone now here, and I’ve had just over a week to play with it, I’ve loaded it up with a few games. Here’s what I’ve been playing: Flight ControlIt’s only 59p, but it’s addictive like crack. The idea is (as will all the best games) simple – direct aircraft to the matching landing strip. You’ve got fast planes, slow planes, and helicopters, and you draw their flight path in. If they crash, game over. Great fun, …

The games of 2008

For four years now, I’ve kept a diary detailing the games I play. Part of the reason was to see how many games I buy (and to reduce this number), and how many I complete (and to increase this number). 2008 saw a drop in completed games – 33 compared to 61 in 2007. I don’t think this is bad, when you look at the games I’ve been completing. In 2007, there were quite a few shorter games, including 5 …

The Simpsons Game (360): COMPLETED!

After yesterday’s play, there was actually just one level remaining: Heaven. And oh. My. If the previous levels were funny, this was twice that. Or more. From having to beat God at Dance Dance Revolution, to God saying “Oh f–“, to God saying he’ll do anything to get his Oblivion save game back as he was on the end boss. I don’t think I’ve ever played a game as funny as this. Yeah, there are nasty control and camera issues, …

Boom Boom Rocket (360) (Demo)

So, it’s Dance Dance Revolution, only with fireworks. And you play with a pad. Rubbish. The arrows are too small. The blue ones are almost invisible over the background. It’s sometimes difficult to tell which arrow will hit the “bar” first, as they’re often so far apart and seemingly moving at different speeds. I won’t be buying it.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan

Yes, yes. Another new DS game. But this one is ACE! Just like the last few. Ahem. It’s a rhythm game, like Dance Dance Revolution or Gitaroo Man. More like the latter, in fact, since it’s by the same people. And yes, I did hate Gitaroo Man more than anything else ever, but Ouendan is better. And not as impossible (yet, anyway). You basically just circled tap numbers as they appear, as close as possible to the decreasing-in-size ring around …
